Bryan and I were discussing yesterday how much somber music we’ve been posting in the last week. It’s time to interject some beats back into this melancholy mess.

Our buddy AutoRock passed us his newest remix last night for local DC dance-punk outfit The Dance Party. I hadn’t heard of this band yet, so I was curious to check out their original material after previewing his remix. The Dance Party’s music embodies the spirit of youth, ripe with powerpop anthems perfect for screaming along to in the car when you think no one’s looking. Nostalgia is heavily at play in The Dance Party’s tunes and I’m immediately transported back to the pop-punk movement of the 90’s and bands like No Use For a Name, Lagwagon, and NOFX. Pair the spirit of those acts with production credits from Andros Rodriguez (!!!, Justin Timberlake, Cobra Starship) and you’ve got a sound that both references the past and embraces current musical trends.

AutoRock is a skilled DJ and producer but what always sticks out to me isn’t his technique, but his mindset. Not only does AutoRock consistently cross genres into rock territory, but the majority of his remixes focus on supporting local DC bands. It seems like such a no-brainer of a formula, but I struggle to find anyone in Chicago doing this with the diligence and integrity of AutoRock. I’ve never met him, but I can tell he is a guy who genuinely cares about the music coming out of his city. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that AutoRock is excellent at what he does and his newest remix for The Dance Party does not disappoint, removing the heaviness of the original track and adding a little more dance to their punk.

I think this remix is honestly better than the original track, and hopefully it will get you dancing in your desk chair.

The spirit of youth is definitely an accurate way to describe it. Thanks for sharing!

…now if only it took me back to the innocence of my youth and erased the vision of anyone besides Bob Barker hosting the Price is Right. sigh.
