THE WEEKLY EVERYTHING ed.01 :: FRIDAY IS FINALLY HERE - V

Today is a particularly special Friday here at CreamTeam. Last week we put out the alarm for submissions for our new column, The Weekly Everything and we got a lot of very enthusiastic responses. I’m personally excited to unveil the first edition of The Weekly Everything.

The Weekly Everything is a call to arms to the “New Talent” that spans the far reaches of the internet. It’s a chance for us to support those who embody the term DIY and be more than an elitist music blog who doesn’t answer mail sent from artists without booking agents. We welcome bedroom DJs, house party kings, and the kid next door. Because in the end, everyone started there, and its easy to get lost in the sea of hype. It’s time to give the kids out there hustling every day a little love.

JAPATTACK is an electro/rap/dance collective from West Philly. Their remixes have been tearing up house parties around Philly, and they’ve just released their first EP—Get Real Philly Now: Remixtape Vol. 1. If you like the track below, you can download the entire mixtape here. It’s a given that I love anything with Amanda Blank samples—I’m sold.

Spank Rock – Bump (JAPATTACK! Big Time Remix) (160 kbps)

It’s always great when you can watch someone you know grow over time within their given career or interests. I first met Avi Sic when she moved to Chicago. Now she has her own Wednesday night at Liar’s club called Big Bang and DJs at various other guests spots around the city. She’s passed along her new full-length mixtape Electro Hustler for our downloading pleasure. Electro as a genre has starting grating on my nerves lately, but when mixed with the likes of Freak Nasty, Flo-rida, Pitbull and Biggie…it becomes some kinda wonderful.

The Dirty Diamonds were one of the first friends of the blog on myspace. At first I didn’t know what to make of them. But there was something so “Art School” (in a good way) and intriguing about their bedroom Doo-Wop. It’s like if Le Tigre had met in Intro Drawing but instead of a shared interest in Tank Girl and Sleater-Kinney they were obsessed with Frankie Valli and poodle skirts. They remind me of the importance of doing something because fuck it, it’s about having FUN! I’m not the only one to take early notice of The Dirty Diamonds—they recently played a Doo-Wop & Oldies themed night in Chicago with everyone’s favorite hometown DJ heroes, Flosstradamus.

The Dirty Diamonds – Naughty Girl (160 kbps)

There’s this group of kids out of Chicago leading a private revolt against neon and dance parties. They throw their events in illegal party spaces and aren’t afraid to thrash the system. They produce their music live, don’t use samples and aren’t “DJs”. Their music is minimal and dark, perfect for black eyeliner and disappearing into a K-Hole for the night. They are Black Metal but with synthesizers—I’ve named their genre and movement Black Techno. Bearries are at the forefront of this scene in Chicagoland. Despite the niche appeal of this genre, they are determined to bring Black Techno to the masses via the internet—and it seems to be catching on. With focused bodies hunched over their knobs and dials Bearries are spreading their niche sound to basements, lofts and art spaces everywhere from Chicago to Oklahoma to LA to Connecticut. Check out their exclusive track Magnetron and if you are in Chicago catch them on June 24 at OUTDANCED.

Bearries – Magnetron (128 kbps)

Then we have BUL!M!ATRON!. The polar opposite of Black Techno and Bearries, BUL! makes music for kids who want to party. Never afraid of the neon nor the skinny jeans, and not even old enough to drink at the clubs he plays, BUL! has managed to make himself a household name in the LA nightlife scene. Possessing a drive and passion far beyond his years, BUL! DJs nearly every day of the week at his own parties and alongside the likes of Johnny Love, the Acid Girls, LAZRTAG and Miami Horror. Not too shabby for a 20-year old kid.

Boyz Noize – Shine Shine (BUL!M!X) (128 kbps)

Ocelot – Lo Sforzo (B-Side Bmore BUL!M!X) (128 kbps)

We never intended CreamTeam to be an electro blog. Quite frankly, that category is already pretty saturated. But we like what we like and lately it seems to be pretty heavily electro-influenced. So it makes me super happy when bands like The Dirty Diamonds and The Dig write us wanting to share their music. It just enforces the original thoughts behind CreamTeam—that music of all genres draw from and influence one another, and to appreciate one is to appreciate all. The Dig hail from New York City and make pretty, melodic indie rock that reminds me of summer fests, drinking iced coffee outside and hanging out with good friends. Fans of Spoon will definitely find The Dig right up their alley. And some people might disagree here, but there is something very My Bloody Valentine-esque about the intro of this track. Check them out on one of their many June tour dates.

The Dig – Any Day Now (160 kbps)

The Weekly Everything will appear every Friday in this space and we are always seeking submissions. Please send all submissions in the form of download links to: creamed@creamteam.tv. We recommend using a free service such as zshare.net or yousendit.com to host your files and then emailing us the download link. So do your thing, tell your friends and get blogged and get your name out.
