Oh I Want To Die With You - V

I sort of hate it when new artists hit the ground running with a cover. If you’ve heard of newcomer Lissy Trullie it’s almost certainly due to her cover of Hot Chip’s Ready For The Floor. Add in the connections the 25-year old New Yorker has accrued from years of modeling in the form of a video for the track directed by photographer Richard Kern, and Ms. Trullie (real name Lizzy McChesney) has unknowingly set herself up for a formidable career as “that model who covered that Hot Chip song”.
Hopefully people see past the cover hype and give her band’s debut EP, Self-Taught Learner, a listen because Trullie possesses a wealth of talent and the requisite fantastic voice to go along. The title track off the EP is a perfect summary of her signature folksy, husky-voiced, pared-down rock. I appreciate that despite their frontwoman having the vocal chops to pull off a Joan Jett meets Alison Mosshart sound, Trullie’s bandmates never get too loud, keeping the guitar simple and turning up the piano twinkles without losing any of their edge.
I haven’t taken this track off repeat all week:

I must’ve been on the opposite end of the pole from you on this one. The first track I fell in love with was "Self-Taught Learner." The cover was the last song on the EP, so I treated it as an afterthought.
She was fantastic when she opened for The Virgins last January. I have a ton of great photos from her set.
Well no we are on the same side. I heard Self-Taught Learner before the Hot Chip cover as well.
…I just think we are the rare case and most people are reading about her via blog posts focused on the Hot Chip cover and not getting as far as her EP.
I wish I had known about her back then when she played here! The Virgins are a great fit for her to play alongside.

I’m in the same boat with tankboy, I knew nothing about her until i saw her open for the Virgins, also in January, and was mightily impressed.
