Summer Sneer - V

Let’s keep with the theme instituted by Lissy Trullie yesterday, shall we? Like Lissy Trullie, Mickey Gang is a band masquerading under a solo artist’s moniker. Likewise, Mickey Gang have turned on ears with a hyped track that isn’t indicative of their range of talent.
Mickey Gang is Arthur, Bruno, Ricardo and Joao, four Brazilian teenagers who make music that reminds me of a small-town punk act teaming up with the Black Kids and The Teenagers. There is a disaffected, sneering naiveté in the vocals and a danceability in the instrumentation. The quartet have gained a fair amount of buzz over their teenage wasteland anthem I Was Born in the 90s, a track that certainly illustrates the band’s ability to sneer in your face until your feet start moving. But if you look past the buzz and explore some of Mickey Gang’s other tracks, like their newest single Horses Can’t Dance and my personal favorite, Virgin (Wish You Were), you’ll find that these teens know a bit more about making music than the quick-hitter, I Was Born In The 90s, lets on.
Be on the lookout for Mickey Gang’s debut EP We Have Feelings Too.
