I could go on and on with stream of consciousness superlatives to describe the October 20 release of the Former Ghosts album, Fleurs. Echoing junkyard percussion jangles underneath straightforward beats, while muffled, sometimes wailing vocals harmonize like swaying corpses over droning synth chords the likes of which haven’t been used this effectively since the soundtrack to The Shining. Like an indie version of a big budget super-group, Freddy Ruppert, Nika Roza and Jamie Stewart (from This Song Is A Mess But So Am I, Zola Jesus, and Xiu Xiu, respectively) have crafted an insular but organic collection of dark synthpop.

Preorder Fleurs here or visit the Former Ghosts website for more information, and if you are in the DC area this weekend, catch them performing at Comet Ping Pong—more info here.
