I’m Paranoid Just Like A Funk Fly. - V

Elmore Judd (real name, Jesse Hackett) makes music like nothing you’ve ever heard before. Weirdo, leftfield soul funk mixed with gypsy jazz, postdisco and tribal rhythms compose his newest release, Unborn Again. I’ve spent a good amount of time lately perusing his catalog of work and blown away accurately summarizes my take on the London-based multi-instrumentalist and vocalist.
No two tunes are even remotely similar, but share a thread of eerie, otherworldly loneliness. Judd’s personality, tastes and smarts are all easily understood through his memorable lyrics and haunting compositions. Immediately you know that Judd is a collector of music, a student of culture and a slave to intellectual pursuits. I can’t recommend Elmore Judd enough. Start with Unborn Again and work your way back in time, checking out Insect Funk and Angel Sound along the way.
Check out two vastly different tracks, Staring At The Screen and Groove Killer, off Unborn Again and pick up all of Elmore Judd’s releases through the exceptional label, Honest Jon’s
