Jams Dean is currently on tour with local indie rock act the Netherfriends and Friday his promised mixtape, The Criterion Collection, arrived in my inbox. There was no title to the email nor any message, just a download link. That’s just the kind of guy Jams Dean is, a bit mysterious, and often vague, but full of ideas and creativity. This mixtape makes me smile ear to ear, an hour of highly personal, bedroom backpack rap over unexpected samples. By the way, Jams Dean’s real name is Blake and The Criterion Collection is your introduction to one of the most interesting and sincere people I know.

"Chicago Girls" (both versions) has been on repeat for two weeks now (especially while in Columbus this past week, haha), and now I’m two tracks in on this tape and, well, thank you V. And Jams. Love it.
Infectious in that guilty pleasure/heroin kinda way. Lovely.
