I Am The Moonfaced Flower Child I Am - V

Most known for his role as singer/songwriter and keyboardist for Wolf Parade, Canadian Spencer Krug is always working, contributing his talents to a host of other bands including Sunset Rubdown, Swan Lake, Frog Eyes and Fifths of Seven. Krug’s newest project, an endeavor titled Moonface, is my vote for his most interesting work to date.

Available as a pay what you can afford download, the Moonface EP, Dreamland EP: marimba and shit-drums, consists solely of a single, 20-minute track that drifts in and out of a vocal consciousness where glass guitars are played and flower children swim in whirlpool seas and walk the dirty ocean floor. The EP is distant, cold and definitely weird, forged from Krug’s vocals accompanied by, of course marimbas and shit-drums. (Don’t ask me what a shit-drum is. I have no idea.) This probably isn’t for everyone and the 20-minute track length definitely seems daunting at first, but give it a chance and you may be pleasantly surprised. Dreamland is one of the nicest pieces of music I’ve heard in some time.

You can obviously grab the EP below, though I suggest tossing Mr. Krug a little cash if you can spare it. Dreamland EP: marimba and shit-drums will also be released on vinyl on January 26. You can find the official download with full lyrics as well as excepts from Krug’s dream journal on the Moonface site.
