Pantha du Bliss - V

Pantha du Prince (Germany’s Hendrik Weber) has been crafting lovely minimalism since 2002, but it seems that only now is his name getting any sort of traction. I am not going to make any false claims here. I too thought he was a new, breakout artist to watch. It’s as though the lock guarding a magical trapdoor has been cracked open to reveal years of buried secrets.
Pantha du Prince recently signed to Rough Trade, a perhaps indicator of why we’re now hearing his name more frequently. Weber’s first release on Rough Trade, the recent 12-inch Splendour has been on constant rotation here at CreamTeam headquarters, and has now found a mate in the upcoming full-length, Black Noise. Black Noise expands on Weber’s lush electronic instrumentals, via collaborations with notable musicmakers Tyler Pope of !!!/LCD Soundsystem and Noah Lennox of Animal Collective. Those names alone should pull in a deserved new audience for Weber’s music. Black Noise is a beast of an album and secures Weber a spot alongside Ellen Allien, The Field, Four Tet and Lindstrom as a master messenger who needs no words to convey meaning. Unless, of course, they feel like adding a guest cameo or two.
A little light followed by some dark.
