Club Dread: Otto Von Schirach - amclees

Posted by amclees

Otto Von Schirach

It’s a fact: Europe has a 24-hour hard-on for Otto Von Schirach.

Makes sense, really–the man is out of his mind in the best way possible. He dresses up in the absolute most inane superhero costumes ever, modulates his voice to sound like an alien pederast, and lays down some of the most earth-shattering bass beats that sound downright extraterrestrial. Otto casts an undeniably formidable shadow over the hypogeal dance / noise parade that surges through the shadiest (and most glorious) parts of Europe.

Which is too bad for the rest of us, because unless you live in Miami and frequent the volatile (yet dearly loved) drunk-punk stomping grounds at Churchill’s or the methed-out, Berlinesque meets b-boy microcosm that is Laundry Bar, have been to a DEMF afterparty or have had the (mis)fortune of catching Otto threaten to upstage industrial lifers Skinny Puppy on their latest tour, chances are you might not have heard of him.

With that said, in the spirit of “once you’ve heard him, you can never un-hear him,” let me introduce Otto Von Schirach: half-Cuban, half-German, 100% Miami and one giant mindfuck of a musician. His latest album, Oozing Bass Spasms, sets a new high-water mark for electro-break weirdness (or, as Cock Rock Disco calls it, “Break-Booty-Electro-Horror-Porn”). Otto and friends have been generous enough to send CreamTeam a couple mp3s (and one from my collection) for your pleasure.

Otto Von Schirach - Subatomic Disco Divas (225 kbps VBR)

Subatomic Disco Divas, the first track off the new album, coasts over a repeating vocal sample, colored with laughably B-horror theremin before exploding into club-mad Miami bass territory, raging through roughly 3 minutes of big booty bliss.

Otto Von Schirach - Romance in the Club (320 kbps)

Romance in the Club sounds like it was made for undead fucking; it’s quick, dirty, oozing enough buck and bump for the floor and evil in its intent (the main vocal hook sounds less like a request and more like a threat). Truly evil shit.

Also, check out this remix from his Dance Like a Hoe EP:

Otto Von Schirach - Gelatin Fixation (DJ Donna Summer Tittymix) (320 kbps)

Otto Von Schirach “Oozing Bass Spasms” is available now at Cock Rock Disco.

Nice try, but no one’s too cool for Skinny Puppy.

Some people would disagree (get ready for the lulz).

No disrespect to Skinny Puppy and their legion of diehard fans–they’re fine in my book, just doesn’t cater to my tastes.

When you get a chance (or when the opportunity presents itself), go catch Otto live. He was one of my favorite acts to see when I used to live in Miami.

    correction:

no one’s too cool for the Skinny Puppy that existed until "Last Rights," whereas virtually everyone is cooler than the Skinny Puppy that existed since the time of "The Process."

There. I said it. The best part of GWotR was the snippet made by Otto Von Schirach.
