All I want is pussy, give me some religion - V
Right now it’s 10:30 am and I’m sitting poolside, in a private Sunset Strip backyard having cheese and crackers and a little breakfast cocktail. Sometimes you don’t realize how much you need to get away until you ARE away.
I fully intended to post about the new Van She album this morning, as I’ve had it on repeat quite a bit lately. I turned it on and proceeded to float around the pool in the morning sun, but it just didn’t click for me in these surroundings.
Instead, I decided to throw on something a bit older and it’s become my weekend getaway soundtrack.
Somehow I completely passed over Cody Chesnutt’s The Headphone Masterpiece when it came out years ago in 2002. I feel like this album was most likely bought by trophy wives at the local Starbucks, but it’s deserving of a much broader audience and acclaim.
The Headphone Masterpiece features Chesnutts’s signature high-pitched vocals, punctuated with spoken word excerpts and acoustic instruments. It’s the perfect music for a sunny poolside in a city like LA—it’s stylish and completely relaxed. With his suave, chill style, Chesnutt comes off like he just wandered into and open mic night for an impromptu performance.
Get your ass to a pool today, blast this and chill the FUCK OUT!
Cody Chesnutt – Boylife in America (192 kbps)
(Editor’s Note: Personally, I’d LOVE to hear what Curtis Vodka or Arthur King could do with a remix of Boylife in America.)
