Bust Out the Sunglasses, It’s Wednesday - jams dean
As with most “indie rock,” I was a skeptic of Andrew Bird until I witnessed his live performance over a year and a half ago. Andrew’s albums are nothing in comparison to his live performances, where he spends his time creating swirling layers of sound that multiply into symphonic proportions, surprisingly all by himself with an army of loop pedals and a violin in hand. It’s a fresh reminder that some people still make music with their fingers and not with their laptops. Not to mention his whistling abilities are abnormally powerful. He has been occasionally blogging about his upcoming record for the New York Times and is playing a free show with The Occidental Brothers Dance Band International on Wednesday at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. I have had terrible experiences with Millennium Park concerts and their attendees, but I might set those grievances aside for Mr. Bird. I’m not sure if Martin Dosh will be backing him up on the drums and electronics, but I sure hope so, because Dosh brings half the party and is worth checking out all on his own. It starts at 6:30, but unless you want to stand all the way in the back, you might want to show up around seven in the morning. Bring the sunblock.
