Move aside Jermaine Dupri - V

We all have our musical guilty pleasures. I take pride in publicly admitting here and now, I FUCKING LOVE MARIAH CAREY. The crazier she gets, the better her music becomes.

Apparently I’m not the only one to see the magic in Mariah. Electro darlings Designer Drugs have remixed I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time for a formal contest in conjunction with Mariah’s label, Island Records. The winner will receive 5k in cash, their remix featured on mariahcarey.com, IslandRecords.com and Mariah’s myspace page. And most importantly of all, they will win the esteemed honor of being Mariah’s top Myspace friend for one month. Myspace jokes aside, the exposure for the winner is fantastic.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect from Designer Drugs on a pop remix. Their original material is quite hard and for some reason always reminds me of Lords of Acid. Their remix work floating around the blogosphere definitely leans towards the harder side of electro as well. As I’ve said before, I’m not the biggest fan of hard electro, but I do think Designer Drugs are one the the top groups currently producing in this genre.

I’ll be candid here. Their remix for this contest is their best piece of their work to date. It’s true to their electro-house roots but somehow embraces everything about pop that makes even the most indie-snob sing along at the top of their lungs in private. I can predict with 100% certainty that this remix will set every dancefloor from the high school party, to the hipster DJ night, to the gay megaclub on fucking fire.

Voting closes on September 12th and Designer Drugs are currently on the leader board in 5th place. Let’s bond together and harness the power of The Internetâ„¢. We will be (hopefully) posting the full mp3 after the contest officially closes. Tell all your friends to vote for Designer Drugs and check out a few of their other tracks I’ve posted below.
