A Farewell to Summer - V

We held our last BBQ of the summer as we kicked off football season last night. The air was cool and the anticipation of fall was upon us. I am one of those rare Chicago residents who actually LOVES the winter. Perhaps it was growing up in South Texas and never owning a coat (let alone seeing snow) for all of my formative years, but the worse the weather, the more invigorated I feel. Each day gets a bit more exciting as fall descends on our city.
I may be more-than-several years late on discovering this remix, but it’s the perfect track for the tail-end of summer as the nights turn to fall. Mos Def and Lee Majors teamed up and with left-wing-inspired post punk group Scritti Politti to release Tinseltown to the Boogie Down off their 1999 album Anomie & Bonhomie. Ali Shaheed Muhammad (whom you might know from a little group called A Tribe Called Quest) lent his hand to a stellar remix. The syrupy lyrics flow like melting honey over laidback beats into the childlike voice of Scritti Politti’s Green Gartside on the chorus. This track makes me want to skip work and sit on my front stoop with some friends talking shit about life and the possibilities of the future.
