Latex Fetish - V

The first time I encountered Teki Latex was visual rather than aural. A friend of mine had mailed me French youth culture magazine Clark and Teki Latex was on the cover, grinning from underneath an avalanche of neon, patterned boulders. I had no idea what he did, but whatever it was, I needed to be in on it. With a production style that spans from Dance to Hard Electro to French Hip-Hop, Institubes co-founder Teki Latex is a man who takes his music seriously. But a look closer reveals he is not only a serious musician, but a man who is not afraid to have some fun. From his videos and photoshoots to his quirky personal style, Teki Latex injects a sense of fun and youth into everything he touches.

Our long-time friends over at Mishka NYC have been making waves, seamlessly blending edgy streetwear and slick music. Their recent mixtape of 90s alternative classics by Nick Catchdubs & Mr. Ducker is one of my favorite mixes I’ve heard this year. They recently launched a podcast titled Keep Watch and the second installment in the series solidifies their presence as musical tastemakers. Here is what the boys of Mishka NYC had to say about Keep Watch Vol. 2: Teki Latex:

For the latest addition of Mishka’s Keep Watch series, we have teamed up with Paris’ very own artist extraordinaire, Teki Latex. Bringing together exclusive tracks such as a High Powered Boys’ remix of Blaqstarr, RIVER’s B-more take on TTC’s Telephone and EP2000’s Capitaine Abandonne, which samples a classic French pop track from back in the day, this mix is a solid representation of Teki Latex’s naturally creative talent as a DJ and producer. Working with his close friend RIVER, the mix also represents Teki’s first full foray into experimenting with Ableton live. The result is a mix that is colorful, fun and uniquely Teki.

For this mix, listeners can expect to get a creatively diverse experience starting with fun, minimal songs from the likes of Errorsmith, all with a little bit of wonky house sprinkled on top. Then, the mix delves into rap — including a freestyle that Teki does on top of Ratatat’s Mirando — B-more and big Ibiza house, then finally ending off with some harder tracks similar to the sets that Teki Latex has been known for. In between all of this goodness, fans can also find a couple of little treats in the form of Teki Latex’s infamous Obsession/Be/Show Me Love routine and a new track called Raven, a special freestyle done over Proxy’s Raven.

Check out the tracklisting above download the mix, subscribe to the podcast and enjoy some bonus Teki tracks. (Oh, and go buy some clothes too, Mishka NYC is killing it, season after season, year after year!)
