Swedish Sunday: Familjen & Adam Tensta - V
It’s officially Swedish Sunday! I’ve been busy compiling Swedish tracks all week and excitedly deciding who this first post will feature.
The track I’ve chosen actually came out earlier in the year, but it takes awhile for us slow Americans to catch on. Familjen is the moniker of Stockholm-based indie-techno musician Johan Karlsson. While you may not have heard his name stateside (yet), you are probably already a fan of the music of his Tellé Records labelmates Annie, Royksopp and Kings of Convenience.
Unlike a lot of Swedish musicians, Familjen does not record in English. However his musicality shines through and very little is lost in translation. I particularly like this rework of his original track titled Huvudet I Sanden (Head in the Sand) featuring Swedish rapper Adam Tensta. Tensta raps in English and the juxtaposition between Tensta’s rhymes and Familjen’s breathy chorus is odd—but completely addictive.
I hope you like the track. And check out Familjen’s myspace. His remix of Lykke Li’s Breaking Up is the best I’ve heard. If only I spoke Swedish so I could beg him for the mp3!
