THR33 RINGZ DECIDEDLY NOT INTENDED TO RULE THEM ALL - jams dean
The other day my girlfriend told me that listening to T-Pain is a waste of time because his voice sounds like a robot. In the aftermath of that near-break up phone call, I realized a revealing epiphany about myself that reaches deep into the core of who I am: if T-Pain really was a robot, I would be no less enthralled and I would still expect to hear his charming robot voice everytime I step in the club.
If Epiphany was the album to bang to (which it was, in case you haven’t played “Put It Down” when your body needed a soundtrack), Thr33 Ringz is the album to listen to the morning after. The songs never reach Epiphany-level. There are no surprises. It’s a solid effort, nothing is compromised, but hopefully next time T-Pain steps out into his wild side again. It’s never a good idea to fit in, especially for someone as eccentric as him.
Still, you can’t deny lyrics like this from “Reality Show:”
( Now who am I to pick / From all of the above? / One loves the church / One loves the club )
It’s a dilemma we have all been through at one point, for sure.
Worth your time is the track “Karaoke”, which might have one of the more blistering raps of this year (considering how poppy this year has been). T-Pain pushes his frustration to Gladiator status and the results are nothing short of “Are you not entertained?”
The most fun track to play on repeat here is “Chopped ‘N’ Skrewed”. It’s classic T-Pain humor accompanied by Luda, getting all hot and bothered as usual about those shawtays at the bar.
