I got a little swamped with doing some backend maintenance on the blog yesterday and Swedish Sunday escaped me. We will just pretend it’s still Sunday in Swedenland and play a little catch-up.

Two weeks ago I wrote up Familjen (aka Johan Karlsson) for our first Swedish Sunday feature and mentioned his excellent remix of Lykke Li’s Breaking It Up. It turns out he’s a super nice guy and sent me over the remix to share with you all!

Familjen’s remix does a stellar job of reworking Breaking It Up into a track that sounds completely new. The layering of effects on this remix is truly sublime, running the gamut from handclap drums to a chanting chorus and a spaced out keyboard. If you listen closely you can even hear Familjen sneak in his own little echoing of Lyyke Li’s vocals around the 1:30 mark.

Familjen’s remix of Breaking It Up is one of those rare masterpieces where you discover something new with every listen. I give this remix 5 (hundred) stars.
