Swedish Sunday: Montt Mardié - V

Over a year ago I downloaded a track called Hacienda by Montt Mardié. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted it. It’s been stuck in my head ever since and I vowed to someday find it again. That day is today.
Montt Mardié is the musical moniker of Stockholm-based David Pagmar. Influenced by “movies from the fifties, music from the sixties and comic books from the seventies”, Montt Mardié’s sound blends the drama and showmanship of these bygone eras with indie rock and electronic stylings. Montt Mardié’s music is best appreciated and understood with a listen to his 2007 album, Clocks/Pretender. With so many eclectic influences, singularly his style can come off as confusing, but when listened to in the context of a full album, it’s an infectious trip from the subdued and thoughtful to the upbeat and dancey, connected by an angelic falsetto and a cast of fantastic collaborators including Le Sport and Jens Lekman.
According to his blog, Montt Mardié is currently hard at work on his follow-up to Clocks/Pretender and considering I’ve listened to this album four times today since purchasing it from Hybris this morning, it’s safe to say I’m greatly anticipating the release of Montt Mardié’s third album.
