I pride myself on being able to find any mp3 I seek out. I am a determined, strong-willed internet music warrior and I’ve never failed at this challenge, until today.
Our friends Hey Champ, who we’ve blogged about quite a lot here at CreamTeam, passed along a new remix of their track Cold Dust Girl from Japanese indie-pop band Rufus. Rufus are friends with the 80kidz (who recently did another heavily-blogged remix for Hey Champ). They heard the track and decided to give it their own take and sent it off to Hey Champ as a surprise. I love that sort of randomness and I love this remix. It features gongs, mellotrons, strings and a mix of effects you don’t normally hear in a remix. Of the million remixes of this track floating aorund the internet, this is probably my favorite.
I liked this remix so much I decided to search out some original Rufus material. Over two hours later, with my entire morning gone, I ultimately failed my mission. Japanese blogs are nearly impossible to navigate and seem to rarely have mp3s. Or maybe Rufus are just really obscure in their homeland. I did find a video snippet of their track Hell Yeah which is at the top of this post. I love the broken English and they remind me a little of Matt & Kim meets Tahiti 80.
You can check our more from Rufus on their myspace page. And tonight Hey Champ open for Justice here in Chicago alongside So Me, Peanut Butter Wolf, Home Video, Willy Joy, Zebo, Darkwave Disco DJs, The Glamour, Skyler and Bearries.
