C’est Chic - V

Posted by V

Call me old-fashioned but I love receiving snail mail, especially from overseas. I miss the time when everyone had pen pals and traded little gifts with their friends from far off via post. Today I received a package from a friend in France containing an issue of my favorite (unavailable in the States) magazine, Clark, and some assorted printed curiosities. It got me in the mood to blog something France-related, so I present you with the video for Somebody Somewhere by the Cazals.

Produced by Patrice Haddad and Constance Guillou, the video for Somebody Somewhere begins with Parisian street artist André (aka Monsieur A/ Mr. A /the soon-to-be Mr. Uffie) spraypainting one of his signature stick characters onto a wall. With a sense of innocent wonder, the drawing springs to life and follows starlet Lou Doillon on a dancing stroll through the gray Parisian streets.

In a time when the music industry is saturated with loud and overdone art, it’s nice to see a shining example of effective simplicity. The French have a knack for pulling off chic, effortless cool in a way foreign to American society. A simple color palette, no-frills styling and a great song by London indie-rock quintet the Cazals is all that’s needed to make a stylish and infectious video.

Check out more from the Cazals on their label, Kitsune.

Lou is more than just Chic, she is one of the coolest stars around, model, actress and cloths designer. Lou has a range out with Lee Cooper and the designs are uber cool. As you would expect as she launched the Paris sales, the LC website at http://www.leecooper-online.com has a Sale on with her 2008 range. It has 30% off at the moment, and with the weak £ pound euro buyers get a mega deal.
