Hearts Revolution wants you to commit digital suicide - V

Remember that band Republica from the mid-nineties? I was obsessed with them in high school. I even streaked my hair with Manic Panic fire engine red dye to match Saffron, the lead singer. About this time I was also really into Atari Teenage Riot. Seeing them live at the Black Cat in Washington, D.C. was the highlight of my teenage wasteland.
I hadn’t thought of either of those bands in years until hearing Hearts Revolution. Dark bleeping synths and drum machines throb behind the female-fronted chants of revolution, switchblades, wolves and libertines (a few of my favorite things!). Thrashing aside, the real wow factor for me with Hearts Revolution is their ability to switch from guitar riffs and drum machines (as heard in the much-blogged and remixed, C.Y.O.A.) to gentle keyboards and lullaby-vocals (as heard in Prism Effect and Digital Suicide Lullabye). When vocalist LO switches from militant to innocent, I’m reminded of the first time I heard Alan Vega of Suicide croon “Dream Baby Dream” to me in my possibly favorite song of all-time, Keep Your Dreams.
So while the internet stays stuck in its endless loops of CSS-comparisons and C.Y.O.A. remixes, I urge you to give a better listen to Hearts Revolution — there’s a hell of a lot of music history hiding behind those synths.

If you happen to live in Chicago, join CreamTeam tonight as we help OUTDANCED celebrate their two year anniversary. Hearts Revolution will play LIVE alongside Aleks & The Drummer, Sewn Leather and a cast of Chicago’s most eclectic DJ talent.
