Can’t Fight The Seether - V

Like many girls who share my demographic, junior high and high school was spent reading Sassy magazine (and later, Jane) in the school library and making mixtapes of girl-fronted rock bands. My favorite frontwoman during this time was Nina Gordon of Veruca Salt. Alongside co-Veruca Salt frontwoman Louise Post, Nina Gordon had a voice that could equally master power-pop tantrums and acoustic harmonies. This year marks a decade and a half since the release of Veruca Salt’s debut album, American Thighs. The growing pains of my teenage years may have long passed, but American Thighs somehow doesn’t feel any less relevant than it did at 14.

Enjoy some classic Veruca Salt and a cover you probably haven’t heard before—Nina Gordon’s acoustic version of N.W.A.’s Straight Outta Compton.

I remember Sassy!  Even Jane is gone now.  Sadness.
