Sweden Screwed & Chopped - V

All signs on the horizon point to a musical resurgence for 2009 that I never thought would re-rear its head, dubstep. Perhaps the somber mood of the tough economic times is speaking as producers and fans alike gravitate towards the sparse, moody rhythms and dark bass of the once underground London genre.

I came across a bizarre remix earlier today via Swedish hip hop crew RMH. Featuring rapper Adam Tensta (prepare yourselves, I predict an American takeover by summer’s end), the track is a screwed & chopped rework of UK dubstep producer Burial’s Archangel by Stockholm-based Ears (of RMH crew). This track is straight up odd with a lot going on, particularly in the glitched-out intro. The garagey-vocal loops from the original Burial track paired with Tensta’s rapping is otherworldly and despite the bit-too-chaotic production values, there is something notably exotic sounding to the finished product.

RMH appear to be Tensta’s management company, which explains the drops within the track of the promotional myspace url, which is really the only glaring fault I find in this interesting listen.
