Swedish Sunday: Miike Snow - V
The album I’m most anticipating in 2009 comes to us by way of Sweden.
Stockholm based Swedes Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg along with American Andrew Wyatt have combined their rich musical backgrounds to form Miike Snow, a new project which will release a debut album on Downtown Records this June. While you may not have recognize Karlsson and Winberg by their full names, you have surely heard their work as production duo Bloodshy & Avant. The duo has written and produced for Kylie Minogue, Madonna and Britney Spears and claimed a Grammy for their work on Ms. Spears’ Toxic. Wyatt is fresh off co-production duties with Mark Ronson on Daniel Merriweather’s April release, Love And War.
Don’t let their pop heavy backgrounds put you off, as Miike Snow the trio creates magical songwriting laced with deft production. Sweeping vocals mingle amongst bright guitar and the gentle kerplunk of piano keys. Pitchfork take note, as music festival season quickly approaches here in Chicago, Miike Snow would be the perfect complement to any summer day spent on a crowded festival lawn.
I predict a HUGE year for Miike Snow and can’t wait to see the full range of what they have in store for us come June 9th with the release of their self-titled debut album. Check out Animal below and my favorite Miike Snow track, Song For No One on their myspace player.

after listening to this song last week, i came back today and have already listened to it 4 times. really, really like it and will definitely pick up the albulm on june 9th. thanks for opening my eyes to someone awesome.
